Cruz de Ferro
The Cruz de Ferro is one of the Camino Landmarks. Pilgrims are encouraged to bring a rock from home and drop it there, a symbolic shedding of one's loads on the way to Santiago.
The cross' current location is about 400 meters from where it once stood, having been moved in the late 80s. The original cross was planted on an already existing stone pile that had rocks from Norway and Italy, apparently suggesting Romans and Norse passing through had already dropped some, here. More likely is, however, that this was a junk rock pile for Romans building roads to Finis Terrae, the end of the World.
